Oktoberfest 2009 Cutest Baby Contest An Overwhelming Success

Lee's Summit, MO - September 26, 2009.

After the main stage of the Oktoberfest closed late Friday evening, the biggest question on everyone's mind was whether or not those cute little babies would get rained on during the next mornings baby contest. After a down pour that lasted several hours that night, the sun popped out early the next morning to shine on over 73 bright little faces!!

In the true spirit of the community, three baby stores united for one common goal......to find the cutest babies in Lee's Summit! Over two months ago, Buttons for Bellies, Champagne Baby, and Happybottomus had their initial meeting for the first ever Oktoberfest Cutest Baby Contest. According to Patsy Champagne of Champagne Baby, "the whole thing was a work in progress and really came together at the last minute. We are just happy for the opportunity that the community has given us and excited about raising money for a great charity like the Rachel House".

With seven categories, over 73 contestants, and a diverse audience of parents, family, and family friends, this contest was not easy to judge! Bribes included kisses, smiles, and even a wink or two from hopeful parents. With the youngest contestant being only 9 days old and the oldest being just under 3 years, the faces, personalities, and outfits were entertaining to say the least. Although costumes were not a pre-requisite, there were many that really did it up; there was an Elvis baby, a "chip-n-dales" baby, a chicken baby, a police officer baby, and even a cowboy baby; or should that be a cow-baby?

In between the waddling contestants was the quick witted and surprisingly fun emcee's (Scott Hillman; Head Coach and Jeff Christian; Forward) from the new Kansas City hockey team the Missouri Mavericks.

With all of that being said, there had to be a winner or in this case seven winners. There was one winner selected by the judges in each category. The winners pictured below (from left to right) were:

Girls 24-36 months: Seraphine (Lee's Summit, MO)

Boys 0-12 months: Jude (Lee's Summit, MO)

Girls 12-24 months: Abby Mae (Blue Springs, MO)

Boys 24-36 months: Gavin (Lee's Summit, MO)

Girls 0-12 months: Kelsie (Sugar Creek, MO)

Boys 12-24 months: Connor

Multiples 0-36 months: John III & Brianna (Independence, MO)

Patsy also said, "they were all winners in our book; that's why everyone received a special baby votive candle commemorating the event. Although we did run out because of the unexpected turnout. We will get those remaining people their candle as soon as we can!". With almost $1,000 in prizes given by 16 different companies, the contest winners walked away (or strolled away) extremely happy. "We just can't wait to make it even better next year", said Patsy's husband Bob.

So, if you are a fan of Lee's Summit and you think that your baby has the right stuff, just mark your calendars for late September next year where hopefully he or she will have a chance to walk the red carpet and be a star.
